1979 Ford Econoline Conversion Camper Van – All Original Survivor

Up for auction is a very well kept 1979 Ford Econoline camper conversion. This is a true survivor and a two-owner van with a great story. It was bought new in the late seventies by a lady who owned it all the way until just a few years ago. She used it only on special occasions and kept it garaged and maintained. Because of her age she eventually had to let it go, and the 79,000 miles showing are said to be original. The condition of the van makes that very believable.

The interior is completely original and very clean. It still has the cloth wall panels, swivel seats, fold-out sofa bed, and a working roof fan. The kitchenette looks nearly unused. The stove and oven look like they never saw a meal, the fridge is clean, the sink is in great condition, and the cabinets are all intact. The carpet is in excellent shape and the captain’s chairs up front are still plush with no rips or tears. The dash is uncracked which is rare for a van of this age. The only things missing inside are one of the rear swivel seats and the rear table, otherwise everything is there.

Outside, the body is super straight with good lines and has never been wrecked. There are a few small rust blisters on the drip rails but nothing major. The paint is original and shows its age in some places but presents honestly. The van sits on period correct webbed mag wheels with 8-lug hubs. The tires have just over a thousand miles on them.

Under the hood is a healthy big block V8 paired with the C6 automatic transmission and tow package, all stock. The motor starts right up, runs strong, and drives solid. There are no leaks and no smoking. It is exactly what you would want from a well cared for original Econoline of this era.

These late seventies Ford vans were built on a heavy duty truck-style frame that made them the platform of choice for camper conversions. Raised roof models like this one with an untouched original interior are getting harder and harder to find. Most were used up, modified, or rusted away. This one is a genuine survivor that has clearly been looked after its whole life.

If you have been looking for a classic camper van that has not been hacked up, this is one worth paying attention to. It is straight, solid, original, and runs as it should. A clean piece of seventies camper history ready to enjoy as it is or to take to the next level.

It runs and drives very well, the gauges show all good signs, positive oil pressure, good temperature. It has a dual battery setup, the main battery was just replaced. The switches for the interior functions work and the fridge turns on. The stove runs on propane. The dome lights aren’t going on it might just be that the auxiliary battery is low. There’s new fluid in the brakes but they might need to be bled to be at 100%. Overall I think this is a great vehicle and hard to pass up because of how original it is. I have a clean title in hand and am able to provide any extra information or pictures just contact me anytime.
