It is with heavy hearts that we put our VW camper bus up for sale. We looked long and hard for this unmolested automatic rust-free California bus, purchased from the original owner, to be enjoyed for the rest of our retirement. We have put a lot of love and money into bringing it back to its former glory, but, as someone said, life is what happens while you’re busy making plans. Unforeseen circumstances make it necessary for us to now part with the β€œOrange Crate.”

What we have done so far:

  • New Tires, Brakes, Brake Booster and Brake Fluid Reservoir
  • New Carburator Linkage & Tune Up
  • Solid Bamboo Flooring
  • Rebuilt Sink Pump, Cleaned H2o Water Tank
  • Refreshed Ice Box
  • New PopTop Canvas, Seal & Hardware
  • New Seat & Bed Cushion Foam
  • Original Child’s Front Cot in Good Condition
  • (PopTop Hammock missing. We talked to our local shoe repair shop who said they could make a canvas one for about $200.)
  • Genuine Baltic Birch Front Door Panels
  • Colorful Seat Covers & Spare Tire Cover (yes, we’re old hippies)
  • New Wiper Arms & Blades
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Plus many more small additions and fixes
  • Bus Repainted by Previous Owner and still looks good with some minor scratches and a little bubbling
  • Undercarriage rust-free
  • Drives strong and straight

Cons/still need attention:

  • front brakes, though new, squeal sometimes when cold
  • gas gauge not working–we calculate 225-250 miles per fill up
  • drips some oil but never needs adding between changes
  • original Sapphire XVIII radio needs rewiring or replacement
  • needs new curtains
  • cabin light not working
