1967 Volkswagen Westfalia camper
1967 Production date on a 1968 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper. Bus is the first Westfalia conversion to be completed, serial #0001. No rust or damage. Bus has AZ classic exemption registration as a 1967.
I am the third owner and have had the bus since 1999. When I purchased the bus it was in good, but fully standard condition. I drove the bus for camping and surf trips with my kids, but was never a daily driver. I have put no more than 5-6K miles in the last 10 years, and no more than 500 miles since most major updates.
Facts:
2.1 ltr. CB performance motor and 44 heads w/ Weber 40 Carbs. Should be at around 155-160hp. Motor was built and installed by JD Machine in Colorado in 2008. The motor has about 20K since the build and runs as strong as ever. Motor has always been professionally maintained and adjusted. Exhaust is on a Empi header with Jones single packs. Motor bay is painted and texture sealed.
Transmission was fully rebuilt with all clutch parts in late 2019. Less than 800 miles.
Updated high volume oil cooler and remote oil filter installed in 2022. All lines are aircraft grade and hard lined.
Front and Rear suspensions have been fully rebuilt(axles, torsion bars, ball joints, etc), and are controlled by an Empi built Porsche designed sway bar system. New bushings installed 2022. New KYB Gas Performance shocks 2022.
Wheels are 15×7(wide) and have been professionally trued and powder coated.
Tires are Achilles 195/15 8plys. Less than 500 miles. Matching spare(no miles).
New brake pads and tuned drums. 2022.
2020:
Bus was dismantled and stripped of most the original paint. Body lines were trued(panels are ice flat) and the bus was painted interior and exterior with Gel base. Slightly off white with Sunset orange details, orange paint line continues thru the interior of the bus. All work was done by DNA Concepts custom shop. New windshield wipers.
New gaskets and seals were installed at doors, windows and glass panels. Front bumper is original and was painted to match. Noted: Bus has yet to be buffed since painting.
New German front turn lamps. New rear brake fixtures and lenses.
Gas tank interior has been cleaned.
Original German vinyl interior has no rips or tears(these are highly sough after). Cabinets show minor typical wear. I have all the original cabinets (fridge and sink are not currently installed).
Interior is paneled with burlap/jute coffee bags and screws are stainless steel. Stainless was used at all locations possible during the resto. Original birch panel headliner is in perfect condition.
Pop Top is in perfect condition, fully functioning and was sealed with flat white liner.
The bus is solid and fully mechanically restored. The bus is in 98% condition due to some cosmetic/finish work that needs to be completed.
Items noted:
Camper pop canvas is not present. During the pandemic the shop was not operational, they are since back open.
No radio installed.
Custom bench fabricated between the front seats has a mechanical hide away drawer, works prefect, just is not wired in.
Front seat fabric is not original and the springs are soft.
A rear bumper is not installed. Brackets have been painted and are in hand.
Sink plastic is cracked, replacements are available.
Rear view mirror is broken and needs new glass.
I have all the many of the smaller original parts. I have the pop top canvas seal. I have original service books, vinyl folder and import docs.
