1977 GMC VanDura G-35 factory Pathfinder 4×4 and Bubble-top van, with my own camper conversion

I have a clear and legal Colorado title in my name. This van is totally camp-able and drive-able as it sits now – 4×4 works great! Super cool van that with a few things fixed up and a nice paint job.

I bought this van in 2018. I’m the third owner – it was originally the Chaffe County (Colorado) Search & Rescue vehicle. You can still see the outlines of the words and symbols on the paint and it still has the orange/white safety cross on the top – partly why I haven’t painted it yet.

It has a newer crate 400 small block with new dual exhaust (less than 20,000 miles (but I don’t have documentation for the engine – it was done by the PO) It has the GM turbo 350 auto trans, NP 205 transfer case, Dana 44 front axle with Warn manual locking hubs, a GM 14 bolt rear axle, (4:09 gears) and is riding on BF Goodrich LT245/75R16 tires with 75+% tread left on chrome steel wheels. New leaf springs and shocks installed when the crate engine was. It drives, shifts and stops smooth, all lights and gauges work but speedo and windshield wipers are finicky. I’ve put less than a couple hundred miles on it in the past two years – it would benefit from a tune up. It has an oil leak at the oil pan, but no other leaks.

I replaced the lowback seats with swivel buckets and replaced the driver’s door with one that has a power window – I was going to replace the passenger door with one with power window or just buy the power window actuator. Passenger cab door needs new closing pins as it sags a little when closed. I dynamatted and insulated the entire van then converted the interior to a camper with drawers under the futon mattress, a kitchen with a 25 gallon freshwater tank and 12v on demand pump to the sink, a propane stove, small AC/DC fridge, 12v lighting, 100amp hour house battery that charges from the engine or a flexible 100watt solar panel, Renogy solar charge controller, fuse panel, diamond tuck ceiling (needs re-glued in some sections), etc. You can stand up in it because of the bubble top – 72″ standing height.

It comes with full length period correct side steps and fender flares, not installed. I’ve pulled the badges and was planning on prepping to repaint. At one point the front passenger side hit something resulting in a welded fix and a crack around the headlight bezel to be repaired. There’s a little rust bubbling at the bottom of the passenger door and a some rust through where the cabin heater had leaked from inside that needs to be repaired. (Cabin heater runs off the engine like the cab heater, with it’s own on/off switch) I was also going to replace the exterior compartment door that houses the battery and misc. After fixing those, my plan was to paint it, maybe with bed liner.

It has no AC, no power locks, rear windows open, It still has the search & rescue dual search lights and the center red flashing light.
